Two hostels formerly used for nurses’ accommodation will be demolished to make way for a ‘visionary’ development.
The Judge Business School, part of the University of Cambridge, intends to replace the Bridget’s and Nightingale hostels with a single four storey building that will allow it house all of its functions together in one place. The business school is based in the northern part of the site, facing Trumpington Road, but due to space restrictions, 45 staff have their offices offsite. The hostels are currently leased to Anglia Ruskin University.
The project, which has not yet been submitted for planning application, hopes to get underway by spring, with the first stage completed by 2017.Carolin Göhler, chief executive of the conservation charity Cambridge Past, Present & Future, described the project as “visionary” and “exciting,” adding: “It would certainly make the business school work much better and hopefully it would improve Tennis Court Road.”
