Theatre

Theatres in Cambridge are split between larger professional theatres, such as the Cambridge Arts Theatre, that predominantly house shows transferred from the West End, National Theatre and other major playhouses, and the more “Off Broadway” variety, showing student-produced and experimental work.

Whilst the latter category can obviously be somewhat more hit-and-miss,  by providing a space for new voices and experimentation, smaller Cambridge theatres like the Corpus Playroom and ADC Theatre can create the breeding ground for some theatrical gems. So, whilst paying a little more for a show at the Arts Theatre is likely to ensure a polished and praiseworthy performance, taking a risk on a student piece could mean stumbling something truly daring and original. What’s more, judging by the ever-increasing Oxbridge domination of Hollywood, you might well get a sneak preview of the acting greats of tomorrow.
